Helping With Literacy

In-coming President Robert Waite together with Vice President David Fenn visited Corringham Primary School on Wednesday 1st July 2009 to present picture dictionaries to the children.Invited by Deputy Headteacher Daren Partridge to talk to the children, David Fenn told the assembly a little about Rotary and the work we do both in the community and internationally.  In telling the children that the Rotary Club had specially obtained the dictionaries for their use, he emphasised the importance of being able to read and write to achieve their aims in life.  The children responded with a loud “THANK YOU” followed by an enthusiastic round of applause. At a short meeting after the presentation, Mr. Partridge and the two Rotarians discussed various ways in which the club could help and support the school in its many activites.  It was agreed that Mr. Partridge would come back to the club in the new school year with various suggestions in which we might be able to work together. We also extended a welcome to Mr. Partridge and other members of staff to visit the club and maybe consider joining our ranks.schoolweb.jpgDavid Fenn, Robert Waite with Corringham Primary School children George Hewitt, Lauren Allen, Kieron Moore, Morgan Robertson and ( top picture ) Deputy Head Darren Partridge.
