District Governor John Banks Visits Club
On Thursday 8th October the club welcomed District Governor John Banks and his wife Maureen, who were making the annual D.G’s visit.
In his address to the club, D.G. John emphasised this year’s slogan “The future of Rotary is in your hands” pointing out it was the duty of every Rotarian to introduce a new member and to carry on with the charity work we all do. He told the members about his training visit to San Diego in January and the inspiration he felt in meeting District Governors from all over the world.
He congratulated the club on their achievements, highlighting our Give-A-Can appeal, the fishing day for handicapped and special needs children, our work with the local schools, our support for the Hooghly Eye Clinic in India as well as our involvement with the community radio station.
He told the members that this year’s “Purple Pinkie” week should be the biggest yet, and he set thechallenge for District 1240 to raise a minimum of £100,000. Corringham Thameside are busily collecting their President’s weight in coin for this appeal, and have so far reached just over 15 kilos. We will be holding a street collection in Corringham during the week commencing 22nd February to add to this, and we will be inviting local schools to support the cause.
The Rotary Club of Corringham Thameside wishes District Governor John all the best for his year in office and will do all they can to help him reach his target.
