Stroke Awareness

Published by admin under Stroke Awareness

Stroke is one of the biggest causes of death and severe adult disability in England & Wales. Over 130,000 people in the U.K suffer first strokes each year. People with high blood pressure have up to 7 times greater chance of stroke than those with normal blood pressure but a number of simple life changes can help to reduce the risk of suffering a stroke.
It is estimated that 4 out of 10 deaths due to stroke could have been prevented if high blood pressure had been diagnosed and properly controlled.
The Rotary Club of Corringham Thameside, along with other Rotary Clubs in the U.K, are organizing free blood pressure checks by qualified medical staff. These will be arranged in church halls, community centres and other suitable locations. The aim is to ensure as many people as possible are given the opportunity to have their blood pressure checked and for them to consider whether they wish to seek further medical advice and make lifestyle changes.
We will make an announcement when we have a date & location for this important event.

cans-alive.jpgIt’s coming around to that time of the year, so as we do every year, we collect donated cans of food outside the Somerfield store in Corringham. This December the 8th we will be asking the customers shopping at Somerfield Corringham to purchase an extra can (or 2 !!) of food for our collection that goes onto the Salvation Army for distribtion amoungst the needy of Essex over Christmas.Last year we had a fantastic response collecting over 1200 cans of food which would equate to more than £1000.00 !!Come along on Saturday the 8th and whilst stocking up your kitchen cupboards you can play a part in helping your local community. Soup, fruit, meat, veg and the ‘old faithful’ tin of beans are all welcome !We would like to thank all the staff at Somerfield Corringham for their support and never ending supply of empty boxes for the stacking of all those cans !We look forward to seeing you on the 8th December 2007 at Somerfield Corringham.
