Wickford Rotary Club Visit

Published by admin under ALL LATEST NEWS, Social Events

Corringham Thameside played host to the Rotary Club of Wickford on Thursday 11th December 2008.
The Wickford club have to visit other clubs during December as their venue is required for festive entertaining during this period. Eighteen members of their club attended our weekly meeting at the Olde Plough and joined the twenty Corringham Rotarians and speaker Rotarian Fred Feather from the Leigh on Sea Club for our usual enjoyable meal.
After the meal, Fred Feather gave a very interesting talk on the subject of the murder of a police constable in Essex. Complete with picture slides the presentation proved to be extremely well received and attracted a number of questions from the audience.
Another example of the power of fellowship enjoyed by Rotarians the world over.

Give-a-Can – Collected over 1500 cans !!

This year’s “Give-A-Can” appeal was an outstanding success.
As customers arrived at the Somerfield’s store in Corringham they were greeted by a Rotarian who would hand them their basket and ask them to donate a can of food for the homeless. As they left the store they would hand their donation to other Rotarians who of course thanked them.
The store did their bit by making in store announcements and had even made display stacks of tins with Give-A-Can point of sale material. We were rewarded by collecting a massive 1528 cans which were handed over to the Salvation Army for distribution. So successful was the day, that the Salvation Army van was only just able to cope with the load.
The Rotary Club of Corringham Thameside would like to place on record their sincere thanks to all those who so generously contributed. We would also like to thank the management and staff of the Somerfield’s store whose efforts and co-operation made the event so successful. We would also like to thank the Salvation Army for undertaking the task of ensuring that the goods reach those in most need of them this Christmas.
